Venue: The Clapham Grand
Date: 03/11/05
"At last The Strings finally make their debut in London at the Clapham Grand (Clapham Junction), a venue worthy of the music about to hit the Londoners... and what a debut it was!
Good things were promised even as they sound-checked (appropriately with 'The Junction').
The trio then punched out tune after tune, to the delight of the largely indie-rock crowd - even a few wannabe yuppies that were there after a hard day at the office couldn't help but nod along.
With the gig going so well and no strings snapping (which is a rare event) came my personal favourite 'Trinket Box' - a song which would not sound out of place in 'Apocalypse Now', a quite mellow Doors-style tune, but this version was different; the usual lone guitar intro was replaced with a bass and drum intro which the guitarist then joined, gaving an even better result than the version on their demo... I just hope they use this version from now on!
I am sure judging by how good this gig was and the 7-piece utter tripe that followed they will be back in the big smoke very soon indeed." Jap
