Interview with Lisa Jean
Can you tell us the background of this piece?
This piece is called 'A Lady in Love', it shows a lady being knocked of her feet, perhaps even falling. All those emotions associated with love, from excitement to feeling vulnerable. I think this lady is feeling a little overwhelmed!
Who is Iris Hill?
Someone who has a bizarre imagination, who is composed of hope, faith, determination and jaffa cakes.
What other odd commissions have you been asked to do?
The strangest projects are often set by myself, I recall working with Newbury Contemporary Dance company on a photo shot and directing them on the planes near Stone Henge. Many families were enjoying picnics that day with the odd dancer jumping over their sandwiches! A surreal day when your imagination meets reality.
What's your next project?
I am working on a Childrens Picture book called 'Hope Hearthead and the Land of Sorrow' Hope is a very brave young lady who seeks out adventures, she will always hand out a smile and she will never accept a frown. Hope loves to collect buttons, rainbows, jokes, stories, bird song, odd socks, jam sandwiches, dinosaur Bones, fairy dust and well anything really!
You see Hope is a bit of a horder, she wont throw anything away because you never know when she might need it! (this is something she learnt from her mum Joy) Hope also has a very big head in the shape of a heart.
When you're not listening to The Strings, what music are you into?
I am a bit addicted to Fleetwood Macs Rumours Album at the moment. I have also started running and am finding the encouraging tones and lyrics from The Foo Fighters, The Music, Jet, Jimmy Eat World and Led Zeppelin are keeping me on track.
A feel good tune that never fails to make me smile is Marc Cohn Walking in Memphis and I get lost when painting to Massive Attack, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, PJ Harvey and Morcheeba.
Our thanks to Lisa for her efforts on this project. Check out Lisa Jean's amazing website. You can also preview and download The Strings Sunrise album from our MP3 page.
